.......a journey into the past

What happens if you can't find my family?

If, after initial checks, I can't find enough records to begin your quest then you will receive a full refund. If, however, I can find some records then a pro rata refund will be made.

How long will the research take?

A complete tree (Root Package) can take from 3-6 months. The lesser packages would be faster. If required, I will keep in touch about my progress. Urgent research can sometimes be done in less time if it's needed for a gift. However, planning well ahead is always worthwhile.

Where do you search?

For all packages I conduct most of my searches online: Census returns from all available sources Birth, Marriage and Death Records 1837 to 2005 Additional resources: Parish Records where available Non-Conformist Records where available International Genealogical Index Wills and Probate Records Historical Directories Military Records (records which require visits to record offices will give rise to additional costs)

How far back can you trace?

Most families can be traced back to the mid-early 1800s although there are, of course, exceptions such as immigrant families and those with extremely common surnames where not much else is already known. Parish records go back as far as the mid 1500s but, being realistic, are often either unreadable or not available for many parishes. The cost of researching specific parish records which are not available online can be prohibitive so this should be born in mind before requesting research beyond that to the early 1800s.

What information will you find?

It should be possible to find when and where ancestors were born, where they lived at various times and what they did for a living. The names of their wives/husbands, siblings and children can also be seen from census information. Information such as cause of death is available if a Death Certificate is obtained but this will add to the cost of your package.

Where can I search for myself?
